Hi, I’m Diana! I am a SoCal artist painting primarily landscapes and trees (at the moment… what I’m inspired by is always changing!) but you may have also fallen in love with my leopard sharks or surf ladies :)
This is me with a piece that sold recently! (I've just ordered prints that should be arriving in the next few days, and I will be selling them at a few of the events listed later in the email)
This is a place where I will share upcoming events, first look at my work (early access if you want to buy some cool original art😉), print drops, and some thoughts and musings on art. (I’ll try to only blow up your inbox like once or twice a month!)
Work Updates
I went to Catalina island in mid July and found the most beautiful palm tree blowing in the wind, I’ve been trying to recreate the feeling of seeing 😍 Right now I have it at day, and dusk... maybe there's a sunset and night time version in the future!
I read from “Alla Prima” by Richard Schmid that you can’t make a painting from someone else’s picture, and at first I thought that statement was just because of copyright infringement (which sure yes, partially) but as I’ve tried to connect the skill of painting with the emotion of creation, I’ve realized it’s because if I were to paint someone else’s photo I can’t accurately capture how I felt seeing that subject in person. My aim is not hyper realism, it’s emotive realism.

Really Good Thing This Month...
Really good thing of the month: I saw an octopus snorkeling! 🐙 That has been a lifetime goal of mine. Here’s a tip though: if you see an octopus, take the time to look at it as much as you can and don’t bother trying to get your party to come see it. They move VERY quickly when they know they are being perceived. When I came back to the rock to show my party where it was, it had vanished. Next time it’ll be just between me and the octopus!
